Archaeological find in the area of Pallas square in Larnaca.

02.04.2015

Renovations at Pallas Square in Larnaca have been held up after an old water duct from the Ottoman Empire era was accidentally unearthed.

A civil engineer from the municipality, Andreas Karakatsanis, told the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) that “construction began on September 1 last and was expected to be completed by March 31 this year. But there were legitimate delays due to the discovering of an old duct and the subsequent work that followed as a result of the discovery.”

According to the engineer, the contractor had asked for a one-month extension but he is likely to be given half that time with local authorities set to meet soon to decide a new deadline.

The renovation of Pallas Square will include underground infrastructure for water, electricity, and telephone, as well as lots of pedestrian space with granite surfaces, planting and special lighting, and one way streets.
