More measures to help consumers gain cheaper access to petrol are anticipated over the coming days.

Lakkotrypis noted prices are monitored and relevant lists updated on a weekly basis to help consumers make the most financially prudent choices.

Prices in Cyprus and other EU countries are reflected on the EU’s Oil Bulletin which is updated every Thursday.

A new measure is expected to be announced in the coming days, sees petrol stations state ordered to immediately update the ministry on any price changes to the fuel they are selling.

The ministry will store this information in a live digital database which the public will have access to through an application on the smart phones or tablet computers.

The app will allow users to view prices at the petrol stations in their immediate vicinity and choose where to go, encouraging petrol station operators to keep their prices down.
