Negotiations between Nikos Anastasiadis and Mustafa Akinci continues

29.06.2015

President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci are now immersed in substantive negotiations, UN Special Adviser Espen Barth Eide announced on Monday.

Eide said the two leaders, during their meeting earlier in the day had made further progress in the chapters of governance, property and territory. He said they had entered substantive talks and the negotiations had taken place in a constructive atmosphere.

Anastasiades said: “I must admit it was very productive. Progress has been made on important issues and the dialogue will continue.”

They also provided new guidance to the negotiators, who will meet three more times this week to carry forward the work on core issues.

Eide said that as part of the positive climate, the leaders would jointly participate in an event being co-organised by the chambers of commerce on both sides on July 8. On the same day, they will also jointly participate in a meeting with religious leaders. The next leaders’ meeting will be on Friday, July 10.
