Great increase in tourist arrivals in Cyprus in 2017
According to the Cyprus newspaper Phileleftheros, Cyprus tourism
is experiencing a great growth, which has already became obvious as the 2017
season has just begun and the numbers continue to improve on a weekly basis.
Seeing the first figures of percentages increase in tourist arrivals to the island, it is expected that 2017 will break any previous record. With Turkey tourism rate falling by 50% at the same moment, Cyprus is going to be among the top Mediterranean summer holiday destinations this year.
Apart from that, there has been an increase in winter tourism on the island. The collective efforts of the tour operators selling winter holiday packages at very competitive and attractive prices have resulted in pushing the numbers upward. The expected numbers are bound to beat the 2016 record with arrivals reaching 3.2 million and revenues reaching € 2.3 billion.
A number of initiatives were introduced by the Cyprus Tourism Organization last year to boost the Cyprus tourism in collaboration with other European countries and it has announced that the first year of visit to Cyprus over 7,000 Austrian pensioners was completed, and it has been noted that a similar number of Austrian visitors is expected in the spring of 2018.
With a reference to the Parliamentary Trade Committee, this trend expected to become even stronger in 2017 as bookings are moving to double-digit growth rates.
