The number of houses in Cyprus increased by 15%
The number
of new houses in Cyprus for which building permits were issued increased by
15.1% in January 2019 compared with January 2018, according to the statistical
service of Cyprus.
Approved in January 2019, 385 permits for the construction of residential houses provided for the construction of 548 new houses (dwellings). They included 279 individual houses (compared to 269 in January 2018) and 106 apartment buildings, including apartments, townhouses and other residential complexes (compared to 86 in January 2018); an increase of 15.1%.
However, compared with January 2018, the total value of these permits decreased by 18.9% to 117.8 million Euros, and their total area - by 15.2% to 107.0 thousand square meters.
During January 2019 building permits were issued:
Residential buildings - 385 permits
Non-residential buildings - 79 permits
Civil engineering projects - 18 permits
Section of land plots - 47 permits
Road construction - 15 permits
Of these 548 new homes, 199 are for Limassol, 183 for Nicosia, 89 for Larnaca, 66 for Paphos and 11 for Famagusta.
According to the statistical service of Cyprus, building permits are a major indicator of future activities in the construction sector.
