Possibility of a tram system in Nicosia

The Ministry of Transport is taking into consideration the idea of constructing a tram system in Nicosia. According to the Minister of Transport, Marios Demetriades, in approximately three months, the Ministry will finalize their study on public transport of Nicosia and will announce their decision.

The reason why this project has been in mind for a while now is because the population of the capital city has reached close to 250.000, which makes it a medium size city and therefore, could be served by a mix-transport system.

Nicosia’s local authorities have showed their support for a tram system, but only in the case if the tram system is financially viable for the citizens of Nicosia.
