Contracts for theconstruction of the Paralimni marina have been signed; with an estimatedcapacity of 300 vessels and at a cost of €110 million, the marina is expectedto be fully operational by mid-2021.
Energy Minister GiorgosLakkotrypis, investor PMV Maritime Holdings and the Paralimni municipality onMonday signed contracts for the building of the Paralimni marina.
The contracts concernthe long-term lease of land and sea space in the area of the Ayios Nicolaosfishing shelter of Protaras.
When fully operational in mid-2021, the marinais expected to have the capacity for 300 vessels.
At a cost of €110million, the project includes residential and commercial buildings and a hotel.
Lakkotrypis said thedevelopment would benefit maritime tourism in the area together with theLimassol and Ayia Napa marinas.
“In addition, it is expected to be decisive inthe pursuit of sustainable growth of our economy by offering new jobs, furtherenriching our tourist product and attracting more quality tourists to ourisland,” the minister said.
The municipalityannounced it is estimated that 600 jobs will be created.
Contracts for anothermarina project, the Larnaca port and marina, are also expected to be signedwith investors in 2018.
In statements after avisit to the port, Transport and Works Minister Marios Demetriades said thepurpose of his visit was to inspect the work and consult with prospectiveinvestors.
The contacts with threeconsortia, all foreign, which have been shortlisted will be followed by sendingthem all documents regarding the port and marina.
“Two have alreadyarrived in Cyprus for consultations with the ministry team and will also visitthe port to inspect the premises,” Dimitriades said. “In March we will have thepreferred investor, contracts will be signed in 2018, in 2019 the port and themarina will be delivered to the investor and we are close to end this processthat has been going on for many years.”
Efforts to developLarnaca marina and port began in 2007 but the competition was cancelled in2015, and was relaunched last year.
The idea is to developand privatise the existing marina as well as the port situated right next to itand to make Larnaca marina the largest in Cyprus with around a thousand berths,including some for superyachts.
The plan specifies thatthe total area to be developed measures 510,000 square metres, which includesthe port and marina as well as the surrounding area.
