Revenue from tourism

On the basis of the results of the Passenger Survey, revenue from tourism reached €43,7 mn in December 2014 compared to €37,6 mn in the corresponding month of the previous year, recording an increase of 16,1%.

For the period January – December 2014 revenue from tourism is estimated at €2.023,4 mn compared to €2.082,4 mn in the corresponding period of 2013, recording a decrease of 2,8%.

Over the entire period from January to December 2014, revenue from tourism is estimated to € 2.023,4 million, compared to € 2.082,4 million the same period of 2013, so there is a decrease of 2.8%. Experts attribute the decrease rate of the changing situation in the Russian Federation. Everyone knows that Russian tourists have always constituted one of the largest flow of visitors to the island.

Up to 2015 figures for the increase in passenger traffic from Russia to Cyprus is increasing every year. So in 2012, the number of tourists from Russia who visited Cyprus was 474,426 people in 2013 - already 608,581 people, and in 2014 - 636,766 people.

Tourism accounts for about 12% of the GDP of the Republic of Cyprus and the CTO and the Government will do everything possible to keep the performance and ensure the most favorable conditions and interesting for visitors to the island from the Russian Federation in 2015. This issue was extensively discussed during the visit of the Cypriot delegation to Moscow, namely Mr. Georgis Lakkotripisom, Minister of Energy, Trade and Industry of the Republic of Cyprus with the leading Russian tour operators and representatives of Russian airlines.
