Tourist arrivals rise 26% in March

Tourism arrivals rose 26 per cent to 97,479 in March compared with last year, mainly on increased arrivals from the United Kingdom, Greece, and Germany offsetting a drop from Russia, the statistical service said.
Arrivals from the UK, Cyprus’s largest source of tourism, rose 36 per cent to 41,149 travelers compared with a year ago, while in the case of Greece and Germany the number of visitors rose 50 per cent and 15 per cent respectively to 10,557 and 7,443, Cystat said in a statement on its website today.
On the other hand, tourist arrivals from Russia fell 3.4 per cent year-on-year in March to 7,855, Cystat said.
In the first quarter of the year, overall arrivals rose 16 per cent to 189,988 compared with the respective three month period of 2014, Cystat said.
