NEW PROJECTS OF LIMASSOL TO MAKE THE CITY BETTER

In addition to private projects for the construction of housing, office buildings, shopping centers, and hotels in Limassol, the preparation of development plans, tenders, or the implementation of projects overseen by the municipal authorities continues. Their goal is to make the city more convenient and interesting to live in. One of the largest projects, the implementation of which is in the active phase, is the creation of a wastewater system. It will help not to bring the matter during heavy rains to floods, from which the Old City has been suffering for years.

Reconstruction of the historical part of the Agia Fila district continues. A final decision has not yet been made on whether to have a roundabout at the intersection of Makarios Avenue with Agios Filakseos Street. The authorities intend to modernize the main square in Zakaki. What other projects are in the process of implementation or preparation in Limassol?

Museum of the History of Sports in GSO

GSO is the name of the place next to the sea, where the stadium was from 1899 to 1975 until the "Tsirio" was built. Now a building of the Museum of the History of Sports is being erected next to the sports grounds and the bridge over the Sea Road. The building area is 250 sq. m. The project cost is one million euros. Construction work will be completed at the end of 2024.

Water Museum

It is located next to the Water Department on Franklin Roosevelt Avenue. The new museum building will be erected next to the Limassol water tower.

Carnival Museum

A museum in honor of one of the most beloved holidays of Limassol residents will be created in the Panos Solomonidis Cultural Exhibition Center in the Old Town. The cost of the project is about 1 million euros. The exhibition will be interactive: you will be able to try on masks and touch carnival carts and figures. The museum will open at the end of summer 2023.

Lady's Mile Beach

Lady's Mile is the longest beach in Cyprus. It is located on the territory of the British base of Akrotiri. The authorities of Great Britain and Cyprus for many years could not decide who should modernize it. As a result, it was decided that the funds for the implementation of the project for 10 million euros will be allocated by the Cypriot side. Walking paths will be laid along the beach, parking spaces will be created, and benches and night lighting will be installed.

Agios Nikolaos district

Limassol Municipality has decided to modernize the area located next to the Agios Nikolaos roundabout. During the implementation of the project, sidewalks will be updated, bike paths will be created, the lighting system will be replaced, benches will be installed and trees and shrubs will be planted.

Park in Zakaki

The process of creating a park in Zakaki is in full swing. The cost of the project is 1 million euros. On an area of 10,000 sq. a playground, a skatepark, an amphitheater, and walking paths will be created, as well as trees and shrubs will be planted. The approximate time of the park's commissioning is the summer of 2023.

Heroes Square

Heroes' Square in the Old Town is one of the most famous places in Limassol. The Mayor's Office held an architectural competition, and then a competition for the implementation of the project. According to the plans of the municipal authorities, two of the four streets around the square will be made pedestrian. Tables and chairs will be placed on them for visitors to cafes and restaurants.

Pentacomo Technopark

Limassol Municipality, together with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the city, is developing the idea of creating a technology park in the village of Pentacomo. The goal is to find a major investor who will create a technopark.

The road between the Marina and the New Port

Construction work will soon begin on the coast to the west of the Limassol Marina. Residents of the city have been waiting for this infrastructure project for a long time. The municipal authorities will lay a road along the coast (parallel to Franklin Roosevelt Avenue), which will connect the roundabouts in the marina and next to the passenger terminal of the New Port. Pedestrian and bicycle paths will be laid, lighting will be created, outdoor furniture will be installed and trees will be planted.
